Company history

The Commission register names Boylesports Enterprise as the licensee for BoyleSports in Great Britain. Its five trading names are boylebingo.com, boylecasino.com, boylegames.com, boylepoker.com and boylesports.com, all active. The archived homepage footer repeats the account number, 39469, and says facilities for persons in Great Britain are provided in reliance on the Commission licence.Sources: Gambling Commission; Gambling Commission; BoyleSports

Outside Great Britain the footer points elsewhere. It says Ireland and all other accepted jurisdictions are served by Boylesports (Gibraltar) Limited, company number 112469, licence number 1010144, with a registered address at Portland House, Glacis Road, Gibraltar. It adds that the business is regulated by the Gibraltar Gambling Commissioner under RGL 083 and 084.Sources: BoyleSports; Gibraltar Gambling Division

BoyleSports describes itself as the largest independently owned bookmaker on the island of Ireland. Its archived about page says it was founded in 1982 by John Boyle, has over 375 shops in the Republic of Ireland and the UK, and employs over 2,700 people in Ireland, the UK, Gibraltar, Manilla and South Africa. It places its headquarters in Dundalk.Source: BoyleSports

The same page dates its UK entry to 2019, with the acquisition of a group of shops in the Midlands, and a 2020 purchase of 33 William Hill shops in Northern Ireland. It adds that it opened a Digital Marketing Operations centre in Gibraltar in 2015 and began an international betting operation in South Africa in early 2022.Source: BoyleSports

Wikipedia gives more detail on the shop history (Wikipedia, secondary). It says the first shop opened in Markethill, County Armagh, in 1982, that the company took over 17 shops from Celtic Bookmakers in February 2011, and that its June 2019 UK entry was the purchase of Wilf Gilbert's 13 shops. It also reports a November 2021 deal with Tully and a 2023 chief executive appointment.Source: Wikipedia

The archived footer lists phone numbers for callers in the Republic of Ireland, the UK and abroad, with the international line starting +353. We did not test any of them.Source: BoyleSports

The Gambling Division's register of licence holders lists the company among B2C remote gambling operators as a bookmaker and a gaming operator. Where you can and cannot use it

Great Britain: yes. Boylesports Enterprise holds the remote licences, and the archived footer says facilities for persons in Great Britain are provided in reliance on the Commission licence. It also says customers must be 18 or over to participate.Sources: Gambling Commission; BoyleSports

Ireland and other accepted jurisdictions: the footer says these are served by Boylesports (Gibraltar) Limited. We did not read a page listing the accepted countries, and the archived about page says only that it offers betting in Ireland, the UK and a range of other international markets.Sources: BoyleSports; BoyleSports

Ontario: we found no BoyleSports entry in the iGaming Ontario operator directory, which is accurate as of 1 September 2026.Source: iGaming Ontario

Payments and withdrawals

We could not read BoyleSports' payment pages, so we cannot say which cards or wallets it accepts. The archived homepage carries a message that the company must verify a customer's details before a withdrawal.Source: BoyleSports

It adds that liability must be returned on all active payment methods, which can mean a withdrawable balance is split to meet that obligation. In Great Britain, licence condition 6.1.2 bars credit-card payments for online betting.Sources: BoyleSports; Gambling Commission

Condition 17.1.1 requires a licensee to verify a customer's name, address and date of birth before the customer gambles, and says a withdrawal request must not trigger a new information requirement if the licensee could reasonably have asked earlier. Condition 3.2.11 requires age verification before a customer can deposit.Sources: Gambling Commission; Gambling Commission

Licence condition 4.1.1 requires customer funds to be held in a separate client bank account or accounts, and condition 4.2.1 requires the terms to say whether customer funds are protected if the licensee becomes insolvent. We did not read BoyleSports' terms, so we do not know what they say.Sources: Gambling Commission; Gambling Commission

Limits and safer-gambling tools

The archived homepage template includes a Reality Check message with options to stay logged in, view account history or log out. Its footer menu links to Safer Gambling, but our archived copy of that page was empty, so we cannot say which limits or tools are offered.Source: BoyleSports

The rules are changing. The Commission's consultation response says it expects new customers from 30 September 2026 to be offered gross deposit limits, and does not expect existing customers to be changed back on that date.Source: Gambling Commission

Licence condition 3.3.4 requires every remote licensee to offer a time-out of 24 hours, one week or one month, or another period the customer reasonably requests, up to six weeks. Condition 3.5.5 requires the licensee to take part in the national multi-operator self-exclusion scheme.Sources: Gambling Commission; Gambling Commission

Condition 3.5.3 requires a licensee to close a self-excluded customer's account, return any funds held, and remove marketing details within two days of the completed notification.Source: Gambling Commission

Drawbacks

The Commission announced on 11 November 2020 that Boylesports Enterprise had breached its rules on preventing money laundering on its Boylesports.com and Boylecasino.com websites. It said the operator failed to have an appropriate money laundering risk assessment in place.Source: Gambling Commission

It also found that the anti-money laundering policies, procedures and controls were unsuitable and could not be implemented effectively, and that the operator failed to comply with elements of the Money Laundering Regulations.Source: Gambling Commission

The Commission added licence conditions: an appropriately qualified Money Laundering Reporting Officer holding a Personal Management Licence, outsourced anti-money laundering training for personal licence holders, senior management and key control staff, and a continuing review of how effective its controls are. It also issued an official warning and a £2.8 million fine.Source: Gambling Commission

Licence condition 12.1.1 requires a licensee to assess the money laundering and terrorist financing risks of its business, to review that assessment at least annually, and to ensure its policies and controls are implemented effectively and kept under review.Source: Gambling Commission

The Commission's article adds that it is vital that all gambling businesses have effective anti-money laundering policies and procedures firmly in place. Both websites it names, Boylesports.com and Boylecasino.com, appear as trading names under the same licensee on the register.Sources: Gambling Commission; Gambling Commission

The register summary lists no regulatory actions for the business now. The 2020 article is on the Commission's news pages, and the register entry we read does not show it. A customer reading only the register would miss it.Sources: Gambling Commission; Gambling Commission

How it compares

The two groups are linked by shop sales. Evoke's company history lists the 2011 sale of William Hill's remaining 15 betting shops in the Republic of Ireland to Boylesports for €1.5m, and BoyleSports says it bought 33 William Hill shops in Northern Ireland in 2020.Sources: evoke plc; BoyleSports

The registers differ on shops. William Hill Organization Limited (account 2752) lists 1,251 premises on its register summary, while Boylesports Enterprise lists none. BoyleSports' own page says it has over 375 shops, so the licence for them is held elsewhere or not shown in the entry we read.Sources: Gambling Commission; Gambling Commission; BoyleSports

The Commission's regulatory outcomes differ in size. It fined Boylesports Enterprise £2.8 million in 2020, while three William Hill group businesses agreed to pay a total of £19.2 million in 2023 for social responsibility and anti-money laundering failures.Sources: Gambling Commission; Gambling Commission

If something goes wrong

We did not read BoyleSports' complaints procedure. Licence condition 6.1.1 requires a licensee to let a customer take an unresolved dispute to a free alternative dispute resolution body once eight weeks have passed.Source: Gambling Commission

The Commission does not resolve complaints about gambling transactions, so a British customer starts with the operator. Gibraltar's Gambling Commissioner says it will not ordinarily investigate individual UK customer disputes.Sources: Gambling Commission; Gibraltar Gambling Division

Licence condition 8.1.1 requires a licensee's screens to state that it is licensed and regulated by the Commission, give its account number and link to the register, and allows other licences to be shown if it is plain that the British service relies on the Commission licence. The BoyleSports footer follows that pattern.Sources: Gambling Commission; BoyleSports

UKGC licence: complaints

Complain to the operator first. If it is not resolved within eight weeks, the operator must let you refer the dispute to an accredited ADR provider, free of charge. The Commission says it does not resolve or decide complaints about gambling transactions.

Gibraltar licence: complaints

Complaints go to the operator first, which must keep an effective complaints procedure. The Gambling Commissioner can then examine and review the operator's facilities or decisions, on a written complaint by email only. For remote gambling taking place in the UK after 1 November 2014, a complaint can be referred to the Division only with the agreement of the UK and Gibraltar licensed operator.

Regulatory record

  1. Commission: £2.8 million

Tougher licence conditions, an official warning and a fine for Boylesports Enterprise over money laundering failures on Boylesports.com and Boylecasino.com.

What we could not check

  • BoyleSports' current odds, markets, terms, limits and payment methods. boylesports.com could not be read directly, and the archived pages we used hold only footer, menu and template text for these topics.
  • Which licence covers the shops BoyleSports says it runs in the UK. The register entry we read for Boylesports Enterprise lists no premises.
  • Whether the Wikipedia history is accurate. We found no primary source for the Celtic Bookmakers, Wilf Gilbert or Tully dealings or the 2023 chief executive appointment.
  • BoyleSports' complaints procedure, the dispute body it uses for British customers, and the countries it accepts customers from outside Great Britain.
