Sports betting licences in Ghana

Who licenses betting in Ghana
The Commission describes itself as "a body corporate established by the Gaming Act 2006, Act 721".Source: Gaming Commission of Ghana
Section 3(1) of the Act gives the Commission this object: "to regulate, control, monitor and supervise the operation of games of chance in the country."Source: Gaming Commission of Ghana
Section 13 says that, except as otherwise provided in the Act, a person shall not operate a game of chance unless that person is a limited liability company and is licensed by the Board to operate a specified game of chance.Source: Gaming Commission of Ghana
Section 32 says: "A person shall not carry out gaming and betting except in accordance with this Act."Source: Gaming Commission of Ghana
The Commission's 2025 annual report says its Governing Board supported the initiation of amendments to the Gaming Act, in recognition of the increasing prominence of digital and online platforms.Source: Gaming Commission of Ghana

How to check a licence
The Commission's FAQ answers the question of how to know if an operator is registered: "Kindly check from the Commission’s website on the list of licensed operators."Source: Gaming Commission of Ghana
Its home page says: "Always make sure you bet with a licenced gaming operator."Source: Gaming Commission of Ghana
Section 18 of the Act says the Commission shall keep and maintain a register of licences that contains details of the licences granted.Source: Gaming Commission of Ghana
The register page has the columns "Trade name", "Operation type", "Date Issued", "Expiry Date" and "Location". It shows no website addresses.Source: Gaming Commission of Ghana
On 9 October 2026 the Gaming Commission register had 88 rows. The table keeps the 32 sports-betting rows, those whose category or group names sports betting, and leaves out the rest.

Minimum age

Complaints
The Commission's FAQ says: "Send an email or write to the Commission attaching evidence or you can kindly visit the Commission’s premises and complete a complaint form."Source: Gaming Commission of Ghana

Self-exclusion and help
